Prospective Heart Tracking for Respiratory Motion Compensation in Whole-heart Magnetic Resonance Angiography

چکیده
Background Electrocardiogram and respiratory navigator (NAV)gated 3D whole-heart magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) acquired with an intravascular gadolinium-based contrast agent and a non-selective inversion recovery (IR) pulse to null the myocardial signal generates a highresolution anatomic dataset allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of intra-cardiac, coronary, and vascular abnormalities [1]. In this technique, an additional IR pulse is also included to selectively restore the signal in the liver, and thus allow NAV tracking of the diaphragm (liver-lung interface). This selective IR pulse, however, excites the blood flowing from veins into the heart creating a bright inflow artifact that hinders image interpretation [2]. Therefore, we sought to develop a prospective respiratory-gating technique (Heart-NAV) that tracks the heart rather than the diaphragm position and eliminates the inflow artifact without compromising image quality.

Free-Breathing Whole-Heart Coronary MRA: Motion Compensation Integrated into 3D Cartesian Compressed Sensing Reconstruction
Respiratory motion remains a major challenge for whole-heart coronary magnetic resonance angiography (CMRA). Recently, iterative reconstruction has been augmented with non-rigid motion compensation to correct for the effects of respiratory motion. The major challenge of this approach is the estimation of dense deformation fields. In this work, the application of such a motion-compensated recons...
متن کاملAdvanced Respiratory Motion Compensation for Coronary MR Angiography
Despite technical advances, respiratory motion remains a major impediment in a substantial amount of patients undergoing coronary magnetic resonance angiography (CMRA). Traditionally, respiratory motion compensation has been performed with a one-dimensional respiratory navigator positioned on the right hemi-diaphragm, using a motion model to estimate and correct for the bulk respiratory motion ...

METHODS 2D image navigators acquired every heartbeat are used to measure superior-inferior, anterior-posterior, and right-left translation of the heart durin...
متن کاملAutomated coronary artery tracking in contrast-enhanced whole-heart coronary magnetic resonance angiography at 3.0T
Background Contrast-enhanced whole heart coronary Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) at 3.0 Tesla (T) allows noninvasive detection of obstructive stenoses. Automated vessel segmentation and tracking of centerlines is important for quantitative measurement of stenosis, but remains challenging for coronary MRA. We aimed to develop and validate automated coronary artery segmentation from contras...

PURPOSE To develop an accelerated and nonrigid motion-compensated technique for efficient isotropic 3D whole-heart coronary magnetic resonance angiography (CMRA) with Cartesian acquisition. METHODS Highly efficient whole-heart 3D CMRA was achieved by combining image reconstruction from undersampled data using compressed sensing (CS) with a nonrigid motion compensation framework. Undersampled ...
